An NHL insider has now labeled Don Sweeney as a liar after lying about the reason Jim Montgomery was fired by the Boston Bruins.

There have been multiple reasons that people think Jim Montgomery was fired by the Boston Bruins, but insider Elliotte Friedman feels Sweeney is lying.

Was Friedman lying about why Montgomery was fired?

Today Jim Montgomery was just hired by the St. Louis Blues to be head coach, this comes just five days after the Boston Bruins fired the head coach.

The reason Don Sweeney stated that Montgomery was fired by the Bruins was due to a disappointing start to the 2024-25 season.

Elliotte Friedman came out on one of his newest 32 Thoughts Podcast and basically called Don Sweeney a liar.

This is what Friedman had to say about the situation:

«The one thing that I look at from everything that happened this week is, I hope there is a day where we get a chance to hear what kinda happened in those negotiations between the Bruins and Montgomery.

Because I don't think it is as simple as they made him an offer and they couldn't come to a deal, and uh, it's over, and the team's not winning and we're going a different direction.

I think it was deeper than that I don't know if [GM Don] Sweeney and Montgomery saw the future the same way.»

Elliotte Friedman believes that Jim Montgomery was telling Don Sweeney what direction he thought the team needed to go with the coaching staff being a big point of conversation.

Don Sweeney did not allow the Bruins head coach to choose his coaching staff, and many believe this was a big problem Montgomery had with Don Sweeney.

Also many believe this is the reasoning that Montgomery would not sign a contract extension and what more than likely got him fired.

Do you think firing Jim Montgomery was still the right move by the Boston Bruins?
