Without Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci in their series against the Panthers, one Bruins player has stepped up massively in the veteran duo's absence.
Despite being a veteran of over 1,000 NHL games (playoffs included), Brad Marchand stepped out of his comfort zone and was Boston's ''interim'' captain for games three and four in Florida.
Feeling the Pressure?
Not only has Marchand helped out offensively with three goals and one assist so far in the series, but he's also led the Bruins off the ice. However, behind his usual calm demeanour, Marchand noted that he wasn't as comfortable as he put out.
(He shared the following with the media prior to game three):
''I definitely feel a little more pressure in that leadership standpoint.''
''When they're around, I definitely feel a lot more comfortable just kind of being in my role. When they're not, it's hard to fill that void. They're two incredible leaders on and off the ice.''
Marchand wasn't alone in leading Boston to back-to-back road wins either, as he noted the team's ''do it by committee'' approach. He specifically pointed out the performances of Nick Foligno, Charlie Coyle, David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy.
He continued:
''It definitely falls on the rest of us that are kind of stepping into that role here to try to take over and lead a little bit more by example and take control of that room.''
Although he's still a game-time decision for game five tonight, Marchand will be happy to have some pressure taken off of him with the return of captain Patrice Bergeron.
