Rebuilding Reportedly Not an Option For Bruins
The future of the Boston Bruins has been a hot topic of conversation over the last few weeks, with fans wondering if it's finally time to restructure this aging team. It makes sense that with an aging core composed of Bergeron, Krejci, and Marchand, that management might be looking to get a bit younger and build new foundations. However, that reportedly isn't the case for Boston.
Even Without Bergeron and Krejci, Bruins Can Remain Competitive
Bruins President Cam Neely and General Manager Don Sweeney both commented on the current state of the Bruins following their rather embarrassing loss to the Florida Panthers in the first round of the playoffs this year.
Neely was adamant that despite the potential losses the Bruins may incur this off-season, the team they will retain will be more than enough to remain competitive and strong.
«The goal is always to remain competitive. Don mentioned the pieces that we have coming back are pretty good hockey players. I think we got a little taste of potentially what the team might look like in Games 3 and 4."
«I thought those two games obviously put us up three games to one. So, I think we can still be a better team, but there's a lot of work to do this summer, there's no question.» - Cam Neely
Sweeney commented on the potential changes to come, stating that while they may lose some key veteran pieces, they expect their younger players to step up as leaders in the locker room.
«Roster changes are likely coming. We're not going to be the same team, but our mandate internally, collectively as a group, is we have a really strong core of guys that hopefully will continue to grow, will take leadership responsibility moving forward regardless of whether or not Patrice and David walk back through the door because they need to.» - Don Sweeney
It's clear that despite the potential shift in responsibilities next season, the mindset in Boston is expected to remain the same. It should be exciting to see what's to come next season for the Bruins.
