The Bruins Could Be Trading Yet Another Player

The Boston Bruins only have $429,000 in cap space left. And that's even after trading Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno this off-season. They're in cap trouble, and if a player needs to go, he seems the most likely to get the boot.

The player most likely is defenseman Matt Grzelcyk.

Chatter is picking up more as I scout preseason games here, a Northeast-based NHL pro scout told Boston Hockey Now on Wednesday morning. Teams are starting to see if maybe they have a young player that can make the jump or eat up more minutes. Look at what the kid [Mason] Lohrei did in Buffalo last night. Sure, he made some mistakes, but he didn't get down on himself, and man, he ate some minutes up. I watched him a lot last season. I think he could be ready for the show.

I don't really know about (Derek) Forbort, but I can tell you that teams are interested in Grzelcyk, the scout told BHN. Maybe Donny [Sweeney] should ring up Kyle [Davidson] again in Chicago? Grzelcyk is better than any left-shot D they have now, and they have cap space. He could be great on their powerplay.

If teams are already calling in, there could be some serious interest around Grzelcyk.

Matt Grzelcyk is a LD, something the Blackhawks desperately need. Matt is 29 years old, so he may not fit the rebuild portion going on right now in Chicago. However, if they could get an offer to work, Matt would be a snug fit in the LD spot as depth there is scarce.
