In the last two years, the record-breaking Presidents Trophy Bruins which lost in the first round has seen its players retire and scatter around the league.
Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci would say goodbye to the sport of hockey, leaving the NHL. Leaving many Bruins fans and hockey pundits everywhere, sad and feeling the emptiness left as their presence no longer darkens TD Gardens halls.
The rest of the turnover would be significant, as they would continue to shed talent and it's obvious the team has never been thinner on depth.
Again they lost to the Florida Panthers in the playoffs in 2023-2024, as more would leave, including Jake DeBrusk and Linus Ullmark, and others would walk in free agency or be traded, as Jakub Zboril is now a Columbus Blue Jacket.
If the Bruins are to cement themselves as one of the better teams in the NHL, they will need to continue to find a forward for the top six and solidify the defensive pairs, as they have lost muscle and scoring.
The absence of Tyler Bertuzzi and Taylor Hall is noticeable, as the B's had to rely upon Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha as top-six forwards this season.
While it is true the Bruins did finish 2nd in the Atlantic Division, with a 47-20-15 record, they're a paper tiger as the Panthers have torn them to shreds in two post-season series.
GM Don Sweeney has to put the team back on the horse and find a modern team that echoes the Big Bad Bruins because last season they were the hunted, compared to the bloodthirsty winners of the past.
