The worst was just confirmed for a Boston Bruins player after an announcement by the Boston Bruins.

Yesterday the Boston Bruins announced their official opening night roster, and they revealed that Matthew Poitras has been placed on injury reserved.

Matthew Poitras looked good during camp for the Boston Bruins but he was told that he needed to prove to the Boston Bruins that he deserved a spot on the roster, and one wouldn't just be handed to him.

The #NHLBruins opening roster has $145K Projected Cap Space with 22 active players (13F/7D/2G)

Can fit $664K Annual Cap Hit @ Deadline with no moves

IR: Poitras
SOIR: Mitchell

Includes $1.38M dead cap hit: $50K bonus overage & $1.33M Reilly buyout

Being placed on injury reserved is bad news for the young forward as now it gives someone else the opportunity to win over his spot. Although he was on their official roster list submitted to the NHL, if he's out for awhile, and someone else is given a chance to take his place, he may not have his spot when he is healthy again.

Matthew Poitras surprised a lot of players last year after making the opening night roster for the Boston Bruins out of training camp, but his year was cut short after suffering an injury midway through the year.

Poitras had to undergo shoulder surgery which would cause him to miss the rest of the regular season, and the playoffs for the Boston Bruins.

The recovery time was set to be around 5-6 months. Poitras returned to camp fully healthy, but has since suffered another injury.

It's unfortunate, seems like the young player cannot catch a break.
