We never thought we'd get here, a starting goalie in the net on Tuesday, October 8th. It remains unconfirmed right now, but Jim Montgomery has stated it's a possibility against the defending Stanley Cup champion, the Florida Panthers.

Prior to the signing on Sunday the 6th, there seemed to be no communication between the two camps, as most of the negotiation seemed to be happening in public.

Especially when it was known that owner Jeremy Jacobs was irked by the comments by Jeremy Swayman, about him keeping notes of what was said about him in arbitration.

He took them seriously and improved his game, much like another winning athlete, Michael Jordan. He took it personally.

Jacobs was of course a setback in the negotiations, as he came off cheap when discussing his top goalie.

But, there was another comment by the President of Hockey Operations which led Lewis Gross, Jeremy Swayman, and Don Sweeney back to the table to finish a deal.

Neely doesn't begrudge Swayman for seeking a big contract in free agency, but he's surprised this is still going on -- and surprised at Swayman's high asking price. He then put the puck firmly in Swayman's crease.

"I don't want to get into the weeds what his ask is, but I know there are 64 million reasons for him to be playing now," Neely said Monday.

This was the comment that led to Gross and Sweeney finalizing the deal, as the levees broke, and money finally flowed.

The RFA goalie had signed! Finally!

So, the surprising thing about all of this, if it is true a moment of what could be construed as dishonesty from Neely, led to Swayman finally sealing the deal.

How difficult was this in the first place?

There are so many questions I have, as both sides had to be so entrenched to not even discuss figures like this, or was Neely using this as a cudgel in the media to bring Gross and Swayman back to the table?

Either way, the situation is done and over with for the next 8 years.
