The Boston Bruins miss out on the top available free agent and lose him to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

There was a rumour swirling around yesterday involving the Toronto Maple Leafs that they were set to sign Max Pacioretty to a PTO.

The Boston Bruins were linked to Max Pacioretty in the last few weeks, and many thought he may be a good fit for the Bruins, as he was a multiple time 30+ goal scorer.

It was announced today that the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed him to a professional tryout contract. Chris Johnston also stated that there is a good chance that he gets a full contract out of this and he should crack the roster.

It seems like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Max Pacioretty already have a deal in place, and only signed him to a PTO right now due to cap reasons. They currently don't have the room to sign him to a contract, and are working on completing a trade to get this done.

Many including insider David Pagnotta believe that Connor Timmins may be the one who is going to get traded to clear the cap space to sign Max Pacioretty.

«The Maple Leafs currently have slightly over $1.275 million in salary cap space but could free up an additional $1.1 million by trading defenceman Conor Timmins, or the team could place him on waivers and if he clears then send him down to the AHL.»
