Trade rumors between the Bruins and Flames are fading away
Throughout the summer, the NHL trade rumors buzzed with the potential of the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames striking a deal. However, recent developments suggest that such a trade might not be in the cards.
Bruins GM Don Sweeney showed interest in Flames center Elias Lindholm and defenseman Noah Hanifin, but the Bruins seem to lack the necessary first-round draft picks and top prospects required for a significant trade.
This means any potential trade would likely involve sacrificing a key roster player alongside prospects like Fabian Lysell or Mason Lohrei.
On the other side of the trade talks, Lindholm and Hanifin, both potential 2024 unrestricted free agents, indicated their willingness to sign contract extensions with the Flames.
Elias Lindholm expressed his fondness for Calgary, saying,
"I love it here. I love Canada as a country and Calgary as a city. Ever since I've got here, it's been great, fans have been good, everyone's treated me well, great teammates."
Flames GM Craig Conroy shared the mutual interest in retaining Lindholm, who enters the final year of his contract.
As for Noah Hanifin, he wants to gauge the Flames' performance in the upcoming season before deciding on an extension.
He mentioned,
"I just wanted to see how this year played out a little bit and take my time a little bit."
While trade rumors swirled, it appears that Lindholm and Hanifin are open to staying in Calgary, potentially dimming the chances of a major trade between the Bruins and Flames anytime soon.
