Without having Jeremy Swayman signed to a contract, the Boston Bruins look to enter the regular season with Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi as their goaltending duo.
This whole situation is putting a lot of pressure on Brandon Bussi, who is the Bruins top goalie prospect, as now he has to take a jump that he may not be ready to do. Bussi has had a lot of hype around him, but has been developing in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, and now may be expected to start the year in the NHL even if he isn't ready.
A recent report regarding Jeremy Swayman revealed that both the Bruins and Swayman are not willing to budge in contract negotiations. Even though both sides want the same thing, for Swayman to be playing long-term with the Boston Bruins.
Don Sweeney did state that he feels confident that the two sides will agree on a deal before the December 1st deadline, but will it be too late for the Boston Bruins?
The Bruins acquired Joonas Korpisalo from a trade with the Ottawa Senators, and now he is slated to be the Boston Bruins starting goalie entering the season this year. It's not clear who will win the backup role as both Brandon Bussi and Michael DiPietro are fighting for the spot, but chances are neither of them are prepared to make the jump to the NHL right now.
Brandon Bussi has looked underwhelming during the preseason so far. In his first appearance he allowed two goals on just 12 shots.
Bussi was supposed to play the full game in his second preseason appearence against the New York Rangers, but failed to do so after allowing four goals on 32 shots.
Tonight the Bruins will get their first look at their tandem as both Brandon Bussi and Joonas Korpisalo will be dressed for the game.
