In a matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Calgary Flames, the Flames faced a setback in the second period with the departure of forward A.J. Greer due to a distressing injury near the boards.

Following a tripping minor, Greer suffered an ankle injury as his left boot collided with the kick plate along the wall, leaving him in extreme pain and unable to bear weight on his ankle.

Team insider Eric Francis, present at the game, reported Greer's visible agony and the necessity for assistance off the ice. Blue Jackets insider Aaron Portzline detailed the unsettling sight of Greer's left ankle bending unnaturally against the boards.

The gravity of the situation became apparent during the intermission, with minimal replays and only a real-time sequence shown from various angles. As the third period commenced, Greer was notably absent from the bench, raising concerns about the severity of his injury.

Francis speculated on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the injury could be to Greer's Achilles, projecting a prolonged absence that might extend to the remainder of the season, necessitating a call-up from the Wranglers.

Prior to the game against Columbus, Greer had contributed six goals and 10 points in 46 games this season. While awaiting a more comprehensive update from the team and head coach Ryan Huska after further assessments, the hockey community extends heartfelt wishes for Greer's swift and complete recovery.
