NHL veteran set to finally have his jersey retired following announcement

A long-time NHL veteran is set to finally have his jersey retired following an announcement.

Yesterday it was announced that the Carolina Hurricanes signed their long-time captain Eric Staal to a 1-day contract so that he could retire a Carolina Hurricane.

The Hurricanes also announced that the organization will not only be signing him so he can retire a member of the Hurricanes, but they will also be retiring his number 12 as well.

BREAKING: Eric Staal has signed a one-day contract to retire with the Hurricanes, who will retire his #12 sweater at a later date this season

Staal played a big part in helping the Carolina Hurricanes win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2006, and will be honoured by the team by retiring a member of the Canes and also having his jersey retired.
