One Of The Richest Players In The NHL Appears To Call It A Career
New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello held a rare offseason press conference today at UBS Arena at Belmont Park, addressing questions from reporters.
One pressing inquiry was about the future of veteran forward Zach Parise, a favorite of Lamoriello. Despite being unsigned for the upcoming season, Parise typically inked one-year deals with Lamoriello just before training camp. Will it happen again? It appears not. Lamoriello confirmed that Parise won't be at Islanders training camp this fall, and the team won't offer him a contract.
Isles insider Arthur Staple added:
"To me, this sounds like Parise's NHL days are over. After all, Lamoriello sure seems like the only GM willing to give a contract to Parise these days."
With over $110 million in career earnings, Parise is one of the wealthiest players in NHL history.
