Today it was just announced that Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark has been named the third star of the week in the NHL.
This week, Linus Ullmark appeared in three games, including a back-to-back against the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Pittsburgh Penguins where he would go on to record a 0.967 save percentage, along with a .99 goals against average. Ullmark would stop 88 out of the 91 shots he faced.
Ullmark's first win began on Wednesday when the Sens beat the Anaheim Ducks, and Ullmark stopped 31 of the 32 shots faced, putting up a .926 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average.
Heading into Carolina, Ullmark played a perfect game, and recorded his second shutout of the season, saving all 32 shots that he faced. His shutout would be the Senators fourth of the season, and marked the first time the Senators have reached four shutouts in a year since the 2018-19 season.
Ullmark was supposed to be off on Saturday night, and Anton Forsberg was expected to play the second part of the back-to-back for the Senators, but Forsberg ended up suffering a minor injury during pregame warmup, meaning Ullmark was starting his third game in a row, and second in as many nights.
Even though he wasn't expecting to play, Ullmark seemed good to go, and would go on to make some ridicules saves including a highlight reel save on former Senator Erik Karlsson, and Sidney Crosby, to help the Senators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Ullmark stopped 25 of the 27 shots faced giving him a .926 save percentage and a 1.94 goals against average.
The former Boston Bruins goaltender is currently riding a five game winning streak that dates back to December 5th.
Many argue that Linus Ullmark should have been the first star of the week, but congratulations to him on a well deserved honour by the NHL.
