Earlier today the Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced that Derek Forbort has left the team, and now they have provided an update on his situation.
Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal reported that Derek Forbort has left the team for personal reasons, but has stated that it doesn't sound like he will be out long term. He stated that Forbort could be back with the team in as little as a couple of days.
Hopefully everything is okay with his family, and his own mental, and physical health.
Derek Forbort was brought into the Vancouver Canucks to provide them depth on the back end, but has only appeared in three games so far with the Canucks, and is now taking some time away from the team for personal reasons.
In those three games Forbort has registered one point, being an assist, and has a -1 +/- rating along with 2 penalty minutes.
During the off-season the Boston Bruins opted not to bring back Derek Forbort especially after signing Nikita Zadorov to a large 6-year, $5 million deal, and also having some like Mason Lohrei who would have a good chance at making the Bruins opening night roster, the Boston Bruins just simply did not have room for the veteran defenseman.
During free agency Derek Forbot chose to sign a new deal with the Vancouver Canucks. He signed a one-year $1.5 million deal, along with a couple other ex-Boston Bruins players like Jake DeBrusk, and Danton Heinen.
