Last year Derek Forbort was looked at as a 7th defenseman for the Boston Bruins, and didn't get much playing time, that also had to do with him dealing with some injuries, but Forbort also just got outplayed.
Derek Forbort would appear in just 35 games for the Boston Bruins, along with some time down with the Providence Bruins.
In the 35 games Forbot would play with the Boston Bruins, he would put up 0 goals, and 4 assists for 4 points along with a +8 +/- rating. He also spent two games down with the Providence Bruins where he would have 0 points, with a -1 +/- rating.
Today some heartbreaking news was announced by the Vancouver Canucks General Manager, Patrik Allvin regarding the former Boston Bruin.
Patrik Allvin announced that Derek Forbort has left the team for personal reasosn, they did not state how long Derek Forbort will be gone for, but they revealed that Erik Brannstrom will replace him after calling him up from their American Hockey League affiliate the Abbotsford Canucks.
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin had this to say:
Derek Forbort has played just three games for the Vancouver Canucks this year, after leaving the Boston Bruins and signing with them in free agency. Forbort signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract in the off-season on July 1st.
Forbort was brought into the Canucks organization to play a depth role with the team, after doing the same the past three years with the Boston Bruins.
We hope that everything is okay with Forbort's family, and himself, as times can be tough. Our prayers are with him and his family during this time.
Until we know further details, we can only speculate what is going on, but stay tuned for further updates on this situation.
