Tyler Totten, a 18-year-old professional hockey player has been arrested after an altercation led to the death of a 41-year-old named Andre Bourgeois.

Bourgeois passed away from injuries sustained during a violent attack on September 22, with his obituary listing his death date as September 27.

The incident happened early in the morning near the Tannery area in downtown Fredericton, a spot surrounded by several bars. According to police, two men were assaulted during the altercation, and one of them, Bourgeois, suffered critical injuries. A week after the attack, police confirmed that both men had been victims of the violent encounter.

Tyler Totten, who plays for the Fredericton Red Wings in the Junior A Maritime Hockey League, has been charged with manslaughter following Bourgeois' passing. In addition to Totten, three teenagers-two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old-have also been charged with manslaughter. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities are being withheld, and it's unclear if they are affiliated with the Red Wings.

The Maritime Junior Hockey League has acknowledged the charges, with spokesperson James Faulkner stating that both the league and the team are cooperating with police.

However, he emphasized that the incident is unrelated to hockey. The Red Wings' general manager, Kyle McAllister, declined to comment further.

An 18-year-old Junior A hockey player with the Fredericton Red Wings has been charged with manslaughter, several weeks after a 41-year-old man died following a late-night altercation in the city's downtown.
Fredericton police have also charged two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old with manslaughter in connection with the man's death.
If the minors are connected to the Red Wings, police cannot say because they cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Maritime Junior Hockey League spokesman James Faulkner told me the league and the Red Wings are cooperating with Fredericton police regarding what Faulkner called a "non-hockey related incident."
Wings general manager Kyle McAllister declined to comment.
