Something hockey fans never like to see!

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ian Scott has announced he will be retiring from the NHL due to lingering injuries. The 23-year-old announced the news on his personal Instagram with the caption:

''No athlete wants to make this kind of post but I have decided to step away from playing hockey.
Over the past few years i've been battling injuries and working hard to get back to full playable health but unfortunately I have decided to take a step back & start a new life chapter.

I would like to thank @paraidershockey & the city of Prince Albert for all the love and support during my time there. It truly was the best place to play Junior Hockey.

The @mapleleafs & @torontomarlies for drafting me & and all the opportunities to chase my dream of playing pro.

I would also like to thank all the teammates, coaches, trainers, my billets in PA & all the lifelong friends I made along the way.

Lastly, my family, for believing in me, standing by my side through all the ups & downs and being the best support system.

I'm excited to see what the future holds!''

Scott was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Maple Leafs from the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL. In the first year after being drafted, Scott put up a save percentage of .932 and a goals against average of 1.83.

The goaltender did not play in the 2019-20 season because of a hip injury and eventual surgery. Scott would never play more than six games since, and unfortunately, the injuries were too much to come back from.

You never like to see a young athlete have his career cut short due to any reason, but we wish Ian Scott the best in whatever comes next.
