In the aftermath of the tragic on-ice incident that claimed the life of Adam Johnson over the weekend, a passionate debate has erupted online, pondering whether the tragedy was a result of intent or negligence.

Westin Michaud, a teammate of Johnson with the Nottingham Panthers, was a firsthand witness to the incident from the bench and has provided his perspective, firmly asserting that Matt Petgrave, the player involved, should not bear blame.

In a heartfelt statement, Michaud extended his support to Petgrave and condemned the unjustified hostility directed towards him:

"I need to address something about the accident. We wholeheartedly stand with Matt Petgrave. The hate that Matt is receiving is terrible and completely uncalled for. I was at ice level on the bench closest to the accident, and I saw both players moving rapidly. The unintentional clip of the Panther player's leg by the Sheffield player caused the somersault. It's evident to me that his actions were unintentional, and anyone suggesting otherwise is misinformed. Let's unite and refrain from spreading unjustifiable animosity toward someone who needs our support."

The incident remains subject to police investigation, with no definitive determination at this time.
