Another Veteran Retired Due To Injuries
It's becoming a recurring theme in this off-season, a reminder that your time in the National Hockey League (NHL) can be unexpectedly cut short. Once again, another player has been forced into early retirement due to a serious injury that sidelined him for the entire 2022-23 season.
Carl Hagelin, a forward known for his contributions on the ice, has made the decision to step away from his NHL career, as revealed on his Instagram account. A serious eye injury kept him off the rink throughout the last season, leading him to hang up his skates for good.
"It's been an incredible journey, but it's time to conclude it here. Unfortunately, my eye injury is too severe to continue playing the game I love. I'm immensely thankful for the memories that hockey has provided me, and I've cherished every single day of this adventure. I'll truly miss the camaraderie with my teammates, the daily battles, and the rollercoaster of a season. Nothing gets me more pumped than stepping onto the ice, surrounded by 20,000 passionate fans.
I want to express my gratitude to all the extraordinary teammates, coaches, doctors, and staff members who have been part of my journey over the years. Lastly, my heartfelt thanks to my family, wife, and kids for their unwavering support. They've made it possible for me to live out my dream."
Hagelin, who recently celebrated his 35th birthday, concludes his impressive 11-year NHL career with 713 games under his belt. He made his mark while playing for the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks, and Los Angeles Kings. His stats include 110 goals, along with 186 assists, contributing to a total of 296 points throughout his career.
Once again, we witness a career being cut short due to a severe injury. This serves as a powerful reminder that in the NHL, one never truly knows when their last day on the ice will arrive.
