As we all know, the Boston Bruins open up their 2022-23 season with a road matchup against the Washington Capitals at 7 pm EST tonight.
The Bruins will be without star players Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy, but one thing that comes with a big question mark is who the starting goaltender will be for the season opener. Based on how last season ended, the obvious choice would be youngster Jeremy Swayman, but the 2022 preseason stats change that.
Both Swayman and Linus Ullmark appeared in two exhibition games this fall. Swayman finished two wins, a 2.98 GAA and a .897 SV%, while Ullmark went 1-1-0; he had much better numbers, with a 2.03 GAA, a .915 SV% and one shutout.
It appears as though we now know who will start tonight against the Capitals judging by Wednesday's morning skate. Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now reported the news:
''Linus Ullmark first off the ice. Looks like he'll get the start vs the Capitals.''
