After the Boston Bruins fired head coach Bruce Cassidy on Monday evening, rumours started going around social media that captain Patrice Bergeron may have had a say in the decision.

Of course, Bergeron is uncertain of his future, and the Bs will do anything to bring him back, so you'd expect the captain to have some say to make his decision to return or not easier.

As reported by French journalist Stephane Cadorette for the Journal de Québec and the Journal de Montréal, Bergeron quickly denied that any of the rumours were even remotely true. (@SCadoretteJDQ on Twitter)

Cadorette reported that Bergeron responded without hesitation:

"It's completely unfounded, so I won't put any energy into it. It's a waste of time, and it's really stupid speculation."

"There is always a shock effect. We establish professional relationships, but after six years like with Bruce, there is also a more personal relationship that develops."
