The St. Louis Blues have survived to play at least one more game at home in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. Heading into game five in Denver, down three games to one against the Colorado Avalanche seemed like the end for this Blues team.
They even went down 3-0 halfway through the game and were able to finally get one passed the Avs to make it 3-1 after two periods. The Blues came all the way back with a Jordan Kyrou goal at 15:04 of the third to tie it a 3-3, but then Nathan MacKinnon quickly retook the lead just two minutes later with a fantastic end-to-end solo effort. Robert Thomas kept St. Louis' season alive with the tying goal with just 56 seconds remaining in the third, sending game five to overtime.
After a strong push from the Avalanche to start the extra frame, the Blues were able to weather the storm for Tyler Bozak to call game:
The Blues are proving as worthy opponents for a solid Avalanche team that completely dominated the Nashville Predators in a first-round sweep. The winner of this series will face either the Edmonton Oilers or Calgary Flames in the Western Conference Final (Oilers have a 3-1 series lead).
