The Boston Pride won their second consecutive Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) Isobel Cup on Monday night.
The Pride beat the Connecticut Whale 4-2 in Wesley Chapel, Florida thanks to goals scored by Evelina Raselli and Taylor Wenczkowski 18 seconds apart in the final period.
The Pride claimed their third championship and became the women's hockey league's first team to defend its title. Boston's very first championship was won back in 2016, in the now-defunct National Women's Hockey League's (NWHL) inaugural season.
A member of the Pride since the franchise's very first season, team captain Jillian Dempsey led the way with a goal and assist in the win. In net, goaltender Katie Burt made 26 saves to help the Pride rally from a 2-1 deficit.
Formerly known as the NWHL before last year's rebranding, the PHF is currently the lone professional women's hockey league in North America. The PHF has revealed its plans to expand from six to eight teams and increase each team's salary cap to $750,000 USD next season.
Congrats to the Boston Pride on such an amazing accomplishment!
