Jarren Duran has been suspended by the Boston Red Sox, for using a slur when he was being chirped in the stands by a fan.

He would use an outdated, bigoted term in an attempt to silence the fan, but he of course has just harmed himself.

Rightfully so, fans are irate and while you can see from his perspective about using his words to joust back, you had to use that one? The incident occurred in Fenway Park, while the team played the Texas Rangers.

Well, Duran has owned up to his words and in addition to being suspended, he has apologized.

But, while an apology is well-intentioned, what are his actions to make things right?

There are some who think the word is meaningless, but words do in fact have intent and purpose behind their usage.

«I feel awful knowing how many people I offended and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community.

«Our young fans are supposed to be able to look up to me as a role model, but tonight I fell far short of that responsibility. I will use this opportunity to educate myself and my teammates and to grow as a person.»

Duran, once an All-Star MVP for the Red Sox, should consider the disgrace he has brought upon his name after all of this.

Fans are angry, and honestly, they should be. They lose an All-Star player due to an irrational tirade, and the Red Sox lose top-tier talent for two-days.

Absolutely, wreckless behavior.
