Brad Marchand has never been one to shy away from sharing what he truly feels. His most recent comments took direct shots at general managers around the league.

The NHL has been trending towards naming younger captains, as it began with guys like Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and even Gabriel Landeskog getting the ''C'' before they were even in their 20s. More recently, guys that come to mind would be Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Nick Suzuki and Brady Tkachuk, who had the honour at a young age.

However, Marchand is not a fan of GMs giving out the captaincy to younger players.

''It's almost unfair to be giving these young kids the captaincy at 20, 21, 22 because they don't have any idea what it's like to be a captain in the NHL; you're setting a kid up for failure by doing that.''

Young captains have struggled, so Marchand brings up a good point. He maybe has some hometown bias as Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron have been the leaders he's looked up to during his career.

At the same time, Crosby and Toews were great examples of successful young leaders as they hoisted the Stanley Cup early in their careers.
