Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery just dropped a major announcement, as he shared that forward Brad Marchand is returning for his season debut tonight against the Detroit Red Wings.
Marchand has been sidelined after undergoing procedures on both of his hips this offseason but is well ahead of schedule with an original expected return of mid to late November.
The 34-year-old will skate on the top line with Patrice Bergeron and Jake Debrusk. The winger finished last season with 32 goals and 48 assists in 70 games. He comes into the 2022-23 season five points shy of 800 in his career.
Apparently, Marchand and the Bruins were aware of this but didn't share any details too early. As per Ty Anderson:
''Marchand said this was always the target date but they kept it close to the vest.''
However, Montgomery also stated that Marchand will not play tomorrow night when the Bruins visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on the back-to-back.
