Before the NHL All-Star break, the Boston Bruins made a pretty surprising roster move.
General manager Don Sweeney had decided to place forward David Backes on waivers for the purpose of being sent down to Providence of the AHL.
Immediately chatter built up that Backes wouldn't accept going to the AHL and might even retire and the Bruins announced that Backes would use the All-Star break and bye week to make a decision on his future.
On Thursday, Sweeney released a statement on Backes and his future.
"After speaking with David, we have agreed that it is in the best interest of David and the Bruins for him not to play in Providence at this time. David is fit and able to play, but in order to preserve all potential options for both David and the Bruins moving forward, we have decided this is the best course of action."
What do you think this means for Backes' future?
