Team captain Patrice Bergeron was the one who led the initiative before the Arizona game on Saturday.
The veteran made his way to Boston's bench at the TD Garden before warm-ups and hung a customized #16 Bruins jersey to honor late teenage hockey player, Matthew Dennison.
Dennison, who served as captain of the West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich boys' high school hockey team, passed away last Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital. He was 17 years old.
Injuries sustained in a car crash caused by an alleged drunk driver are what led to the teenager's tragic passing.
Dennison and teammate Kevin MacDonald were struck on their way home from a visit with a junior hockey program in neighboring Connecticut on February 12. MacDonald survived the crash.
Bergeron and the Bruins had done the same initiative back in January, to honor another teenage hockey player who had tragically passed away.
