Defenseman Derek Forbort was injured in the Boston Bruins game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday after taking a shot off his hand.

As the team continued on for the next two games of the road trip, Forbort (and Jeremy Swayman) travelled back to Boston to be evaluated further. Both were listed as week-to-week, and now we have confirmation on the extent of Forbort's injury.

As per Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now:

''Bruins announce that Derek Forbort underwent a successful open reduction and internal fixation surgery on his right middle finger. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks. Big blow to Boston's back end given how good Forbort has been on PK, blocking shots and good, hard physical D''

Obviously, not ideal for the Bruins, as they lose a defenseman who brings a particular physical, hard-nosed style that not many do around the league. One positive is that the team is deep on the backend, and expect Charlie McAvoy back anytime now.
