Foligno will get to celebrate in front of his home fans before taking on a familiar foe.
With Nick Foligno's 1000th NHL game happening on the road, the B's announced prior to last night's game in Chicago that they would honor the forward's milestone on home ice on Saturday, April 2.
On that night, Boston will host the Columbus Blue Jackets at TD Garden, the same team that Foligno captained for six seasons.
Now 34 years old, Foligno was originally selected in the first round, 28th overall, by the Ottawa Senators at the 2006 NHL Entry draft. He played 351 games over his first five seasons with the Sens, picking up 148 points.
Foligno was then traded to Columbus in 2012, where he would play his next nine seasons. In his 599 games with the Blue Jackets, the winger scored 142 goals and racked up 334 points, the third most points in Blue Jackets history.
Foligno signed with the B's in the off-season and has filled his role on the fourth line admirably so far this year.
By playing in his 1000th game last night, Foligno and his father Mike (1018 GP) became just the second father-son combination to reach the milestone. The other combo being Brett Hull (1269 GP) and his father Bobby (1063 GP).
