Canada and Finland battled it out for the gold medal at the 2022 IIHF World Championships on Sunday afternoon. Finland, the host country, came into the game as the hottest team in the tournament.

After a scoreless first period, Buffalo Sabres forward Dylan Cozens opened the scoring for Team Canada. Nashville Predators forward Mikael Granlund exploded out of the gates in third and got two quick goals himself to put the Fins up 2-1, just six minutes in. After another Finnish goal halfway through the third, Canada pushed back with under three minutes remaining. Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud got the ball rolling at 17:48 of the third, and Anaheim Ducks forward Maxime Comtois tied it 3-3 with just 1:24 remaining, sending the gold medal game to overtime.

Ottawa Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot was given a hooking penalty 5:36 into overtime, and Finland's Sakari Manninen made him play with the overtime and gold medal-winning goal at 6:42 of the first overtime. Finland also outshot Canada 31-22 in the contest.

Finnish goaltender Jussi Olkinuora was awarded as the tournament MVP with eight wins, a goals-against-average of 1.11, a save percentage of .948 and four shutouts.
