Edmonton Oilers winger Evander Kane will have a hearing for boarding Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri in game three of the Western Conference Finals.
Re-watch the hit again here:
Kane was given a five-minute major by the referees during the game.
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel was given a two-minute minor for a similar play earlier in the postseason for a hit on Florida Panthers Eetu Luostarinen. After a hearing, he was fined $3,750 for the hit.
NHL Player Safety and its on-ice officials are well-known for not giving similar punishment for very similar plays. For example, this was a hit by the Anaheim Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm on Connor McDavid that wasn't even called a penalty on the ice.
