Fans Are Furious After Recent News Regarding a New NHL Location Surfaces
During an appearance on The Jeff Marek Show, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared that there is growing momentum for the potential return of the NHL to Atlanta, Georgia. Friedman mentioned that if an arena plan in the suburb of Alpharetta gets approval, it becomes a realistic possibility for the league.
A developer in Georgia is planning to construct an 18,000-seat arena along with various amenities on a 100-acre land near Alpharetta, located about 45 minutes north of Atlanta.
Looking back at the NHL's previous teams in Atlanta, the Flames and Thrashers, their main issue was ownership groups giving up, resulting in relocations to Calgary and Winnipeg, respectively. Although both teams had limited success on the ice, the potential return to Georgia would likely be through expansion, considering the recent achievements of the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken.
While other cities in North America, such as Quebec City, Salt Lake City, Kansas City, Sacramento, and Houston, also desire NHL franchises, a strong ownership group and favorable arena deal could make Atlanta an attractive option.
