The Philadelphia Flyers are debuting their Reverse Retro 2.0 jerseys tonight against the St. Louis Blues, and for the full retro effect, the club brought back cooperalls for warmups.
The Flyers and the Hartford Whalers were the two teams famous for wearing ''cooperalls'' back between 1981 and 1983. However, the NHL banned the long pants prior to the 1983-84 season for three key reasons:
- Player safety was compromised by less friction with the ice during a fall, causing players to slide more violently into the boards.
- The design was too warm.
- Goalies complained that the puck was difficult to see against the long black pants worn by the Flyers' players
