Former Bruins' daughter makes selection camp roster for U-18 IIHF World Championships

Hockey genes always seem to run deep, as the NHL has seen many generations of several different families over the years make it to the big leagues. I'd imagine it would be hard for children of professional hockey players not to when they probably spend a lot of their time at hockey rinks and around NHL teams growing up.

The latest NHL pro to have a child rise through the hockey ranks is former Boston Bruin Jarome Iginla. His daughter, Jade, has landed a spot on Hockey Canada's U18 selection camp roster. This year, she appeared in 22 games with Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna and collected 18 goals and 28 points.

"Iggy" spent one season (2013-14) with the Bruins, playing 78 games and recording 30 goals and 31 assists. Boston won the President's Trophy that season with 117 points but lost in the second round of the playoffs in seven games to the Montreal Canadiens.

Of course, Iginla spent the bulk of his career as captain of the Calgary Flames (16 seasons), appearing in 1,219 games and collecting 1,095 points. He signed a one-year, $6 mill contract in the summer of 2013 with the Bruins to chase a Stanley Cup championship. He also spent time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings. Unfortunately, he will always be on the list of NHL greats who never got to hoist its Holy Grail. Although he never won the Stanley Cup, he was no stranger to some fancy hardware in his day.

He also represented Team Canada three times at the Olympic Winter Games (2002, 2006, 2010), winning the Gold Medal in 2002 and 2010. In 1,554 NHL games, Iginla recorded 625 goals and 675 assists for a total of 1,300 points. He retired on July 30th, 2018 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility on June 24th, 2020.
