Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Larry Trader has tragically passed away at 61

Former Boston Bruins rivals defenseman has tragically passed away at the age of 61.

Recently there has been a lot of tragic news surrounding the hockey community, and sadly the other day some more tragic news was announced.

It was announced by the NHL Alumni that former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Larry Trader has passed away at the age of 61.

During his hockey career in the NHL, Trader would play for the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and the Montreal Canadiens.

Trader was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, but would only go on to play 55 games through 3 seasons with the Wings. After that he would end up getting traded to the St. Louis Blues where he would only appear in six games through two seasons. In 1987-88 he would be traded once again to the Montreal Canadiens.

The year after being traded to the Montreal Canadiens he would spent the rest of his career playing hockey in the AHL, Austria and Italy.

The NHL Alumni issued a statement following his passing:

The NHL Alumni Association is saddened to learn that Larry Trader has passed away at the age of 61.

Larry was drafted in the 5th round of the 1981 Entry Draft to the @DetroitRedWings. He played two seasons with the team before moving on to the @StLouisBlues, and finishing his NHL career with the @CanadiensMTL. In total, Larry played in 91 regular-season games, scoring 18 points."
