Monday night the hockey community was hit with some tragic news after it was announced that 28-year-old goaltender Dimitris Skotis had passeed away.

Players and goaltenders grow up with the dreams of playing professional sports, and Skotis finally played his first pro-hockey season just last year, and unfortunately his ability to play professional hockey has been taken away from him.

Skotis played in eight games in the Athens Ice Hockey League (AIHL) last year for multiple different teams including the Athens Cyclopes, Titans, and Minotaurs.

Puck Empire on Instagram posted this:

We regret to inform you of the passing of Dimitris Skotis. at the age of 28.

Skotis played eight games in the top flight hockey league in Greece last season, with the Athens Cyclopes, Athens Titans, and Athens Minotaurs.

Rest in Peace
Said PuckEmpire

In his eight professional appearances in the AIHL, Skotis went 3-5-0 which is not the best, but the record does not mean Skotis didn't have the skill as he was starting to show some big promise as he started to age.

Teammates and players in the Greek hockey community described Dimitris Skotis as a well-liked goaltender who was respected by his teammates and peers.

Although the reason has not been revealed on how Skotis ended up passing away, it's unfortunate to see someone at such a young age pass and have more than half of their life taken away.

Everyone at Bruinsinsider is sending their thoughts and prayers to the Skotis family, and anyone else effected by this tragic news.

May Dimitris Rest in Peace.
