The last World Cup of Hockey back in 2016 was a massive success but hasn't been back since.
Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told reporters that they are still aiming to hold the next edition of the World Cup of Hockey in February 2024. Daly added that discussions are still ongoing with the NHL Players Association and the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Daly stated:
''It's a work in progress Obviously, we've been engaged with the [NHL] Players' Association for several months now and we're very much aligned in what we are trying to accomplish. We've engaged now the IIHF in those discussions. It's become a little more complicated because of the League's and the clubs' interests, particularly in a February tournament as opposed to a fall tournament. So those are issues we're trying to work through."
"But we're very optimistic that we'll be able to stage a tournament in 2024, regardless, so we're looking forward to that.''
The 2024 World Cup will be a little different than the last, as Team Europe and Team North America will not be in the tournament.
