The Minnesota Wild, like several other NHL teams, have decided to add sponsorship patches on their jerseys ahead of the 2022-23 season. The Wild were one of the first teams to unveil their advertisements at the Rookie Showcase at the beginning of the month.
Fans were rather understanding of the initial announcement, but it's what happened since that has left fans upset.
The club is facing major backlash after fans realized only jerseys with the advertisement patch are available to buy on the team website and in-store. As per @nhlbreakers on Instagram:
The Minnesota Wild's policy of attaching their ''Tria'' jersey advertisement to every jersey sold at their store and on the store's website has caused a huge uproar from hockey fans.
Some fans said it "completely" ruins the experience of getting the jersey from the team's arena.
The league has reportedly been investigating the policy, as the advertisement patches were supposed to be "optional" for the fans. The Boston Bruins for example, who have their "authentic" jersey with advertisement available for purchase (with an extra $20 charge for the ad patch).
