Now more than ever, it's evident that the NHL's best are getting younger and younger. And recent roster moves around the league adds to the claim, as the Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings released veterans from their PTO contracts.

First, the Blue Jackets released James Neal from his PTO after recording 1 goal in two games played. The 35-year-old is once again an unrestricted free agent.

Another veteran released was defenseman Danny DeKeyser from the Canucks. As per Chris Johnston of Sportsnet:

''The Vancouver Canucks have released defenseman Danny DeKeyser from his professional tryout deal.''

DeKeyser averaged 16:46 of time on ice per game with the Canucks in three preseason games, recorded 4 shots and was a 0 plus-minus. After spending the first 10 seasons as a regular with the Detroit Red Wings, the 32-year-old will be looking for a new home.

''The Los Angeles Kings have released Nate Thompson from his professional tryout deal.''

Former Boston Bruins draft pick Nate Thompson was also cut after appearing in just one preseason game with the Kings, recording 0 points.

All three veterans are now available to be signed by other teams. With their age and having mediocre showings in the preseason, the opportunities in the NHL could be limited.
