As we near the 2022-23 NHL season, star forward David Pastrnak is still without a contract extension with the Boston Bruins. The 26-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent after this season if the two parties cannot come to an agreement.

There were rumours swirling this summer that the Bruins may look to trade Pasta if negotiations weren't going well; however, that was quickly thwarted by management. And according to Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Sports Hub, Don Sweeney wasn't kidding, as the club is prepared to make franchise history with their superstar.

As per Anderson:

''My understanding is that they're willing to go real high with 88. If and when he signs, it will be the richest contract in team history.''

These reports speak volumes about how highly the Bruins franchise thinks of him. The 2014 first-rounder is coming off a 2021-22 season where he once again scored 40 goals to go along with 37 assists in 72 games.

Especially with the recent Mathew Barzal extension of $9.15 million AAV, it should come as no surprise to see a deal that pays Pasta north of $10 million per year.
