NHL being criticized as referee will officiate his former team tonight

The NHL is being heavily criticized on social media today, after it was revealed that a referee will be officiating his former team on Tuesday night.
Tonight, the Montreal Canadiens will host the Carolina Hurricanes at Bell Centre.
Reffing the game will be Carter Sandlak, who was once a member of the Hurricanes organization, and veteran Wes McCauley.

Sandlak, now 29, appeared in 54 games for Carolina's AHL affiliate, Charlotte Checkers, between 2014 and 2016. He officially retired from professional hockey in 2018.
