Everything pertaining to the Boston Bruins has been nothing but dark and controversial over this past weekend.
As we all know, the Mitchell Miller contract situation was a massive (and embarrassing) headline for the club.
However, captain Patrice Bergeron and his team stayed true to their feelings toward the signing, and now he has a message for Bruins fans that were on their side.
''It's clear I understand them [the fans]. For us nothing has changed as far as who we are as individuals, as a person, as a culture in this locker room and what are core values are.''
''We hear you and we feel like our values remain the same. That's what we stand for.''
Bergeron says there are times it's important to speak up and make your feelings known, and this weekend was one of them. He, along with Brad Marchand and Nick Foligno, played a huge part in letting the public know that they weren't in favor of this move.
And they stood by that:
''To stay true to my values, really. What it comes down to, I think it's kind of important to stand up for what you think is sometimes wrong ... It goes back to what we've built here as an organization, as a team, as a locker room. It's to be inclusive and a locker room of respect and integrity.''
Bergeron also admitted that the controversy was an obvious distraction from hockey, but he feels that the team can ''turn the page.'' Watch the captain's media coverage below:
