Longtime captain of the Boston Bruins, Zdeno Chara, joined the New York Islanders last season with hopes of one last Stanley Cup run.
Unfortunately for Chara, that never came to fruition, and the Islanders ultimately missed the playoffs after a severely disappointing season.
Chara, 45, has been mulling over retirement, with no official reports or statements from the veteran himself. However, according to Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, Chara has, in fact, played his final game.
''The guessing around the NHL is that Zdeno Chara has played his last game. For those counting, that's 1,880 regular season and playoff games. A lifetime and then some for the future Hall of Famer''
This sounds like an opinion from a journalist more than anything, but the season is getting closer and closer, and Chara is still without a contract.
If Big Z has played his last NHL game, he goes down as one of the best defensemen of all time. Chara's blistering slapshot could possibly go down as one of the hardest ever. In his career, Chara played 1680 career games scoring 680 career points.
