The changing of the guard happens every now and then in the NHL.

And right now, younger stars like Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews are what Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin were 10 years ago. Crosby was drafted first overall in 2005 and has put together one of the best careers in league history.

Already a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer without question, he's given us a little bit of insight into when he may call it a career. While on ''32 Thoughts'', insider Elliotte Friedman asked when he plans on calling it a career. Here's what 35-year-old Crosby replied:

''No I don't think so, I don't want to say no, but I'm leaning towards that not being the case. You know I'm thinking about three more years and then seeing what happens from there. I know it doesn't do me any good to look past that.''

He continued:

''I know that I want to continue to play at a high level, you know, I played a lot of hockey, it's something that takes a lot of effort. You gotta be invested, and your body has to hold up. There's a lot of things that you need to go right to continue to play. I think 3 years is my focus, and after that, we'll see where I'm at.''

For all the haters Crosby does have, it's safe to say that the NHL just won't be the same with 'Sid the Kid' anymore!
