The Detroit Red Wings are slowly on the uprise, as they find themselves in a Wild Card race.

However, General Manager Steve Yzerman announced that he has made a very shocking - and difficult - decision regarding a former first round pick, Jakub Vrana.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, who responded to a report of Vrana's future in Detroit, shared that the club has no plans to call up the winger, who is currently in the AHL.

Nick's info here on Vrana echoes what I've been told about the situation. Very unlikely Vrana rejoins the big club this year and the Wings are intent on moving him, one way or another, this off-season.

Vrana has 1-year left on his contract after this season at a $5.25M cap hit.

Vrana checked into the NHL/NHLPA's Player Assistance Program in October and was sent down to the Grands Rapids Griffins of the AHL upon his return.

After a slow start, the 26-year-old has registered 6 goals and 3 assists in fifteen games. He also has one year remaining on his $5.25 million cap hit.

The Czechia native was originally selected 13th overall by the Washington Capitals in 2014. In 323 NHL games, he's collected 98 goals and 91 assists with the Capitals and Red Wings. He was a Stanley Cup winner with Washington in 2018.
