During the most recent Montreal Canadiens game, Patrik Laine was on the receiving end of a knee-on-knee hit from a Toronto Maple Leafs player who use to be a Boston Bruin.
On Saturday, the Montreal Canadiens were taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs when Patrik Laine was taking the puck through the middle of the ice, and got caught between two Leafs players. Laine had to be helped off the ice, and would not return to the game.
Following the game it was reported that Patrik Laine was wearing a brace on his left knee and left the arena with crutches. Montreal Canadiens had a lot of hype surrounding Patrik Laine after trading for him from the Columbus Blue Jackets during the off-season, but depending on how bad the injury is, we may not see him at all this season.
The 26-year old winger has been injury prone his whole career, and has entered the players' assistance program once. According to hockeydb, during his 9-years in the league, Laine has only played 2 full seasons, once in 2017-18, the next in 2018-19. Other then that Laine has missed a significant amount of time.
The Montreal Canadiens knew acquiring Patrik Laine would be a gamble due to his health during his career, but things were looking bright for him until last night.
Laine just can't catch a break with all the injuries he's had to deal with. Hopefully the injury isn't as bad as it seems, and Laine is back sooner rather then later.
