From the iconic "Miracle on Ice" in 1981 to the beloved "The Mighty Ducks" franchise in the 90s, hockey has graced both the small and big screens, providing endless entertainment.
Yet, one film that stands above the rest in the hearts of fans worldwide is "Slap Shot," released in 1977, starring the legendary Paul Newman. This sports comedy has aged like fine wine and holds a revered spot in the annals of cinematic history.
In fact, "Slap Shot" has garnered prestigious accolades over the years, being hailed as the best guy movie by Maxim magazine in 1998 and earning the title of the best sports film in the past 50 years according to GQ magazine.
Unfortunately, today, news of concern hit the headlines regarding Steve Carlson, one of the famed Hanson Brothers from the movie. Portraying Steve Hanson #17, Carlson's character left an indelible mark on audiences.
In an update from @Hanson Brothers on Twitter, they shared some relief amidst the concern, stating that Steve Carlson is talking, stable, and awake.
It's worth noting that beyond his acting prowess, Carlson was a skilled hockey player in real life, having competed in the WHA, a rival league to the NHL during the 1970s. He later made the leap to the NHL and suited up for the Los Angeles Kings, showcasing his talents on the ice.
During the 1979-1980 regular season, Carlson demonstrated his abilities, recording nine goals and 21 points in 52 games for the Kings.
As news of Carlson's condition circulates, we extend our heartfelt well wishes for his full recovery and hope to see him back in good health soon.
