Cory Pronman of The Athletic has released his annual ranking of the best NHL players and prospects under the age of 23, and it does not look for the Boston Bruins.
General manager Don Sweeney has had somewhat of a controversial draft history, starting with his three first round picks in 2015, and it's reflected as many insiders have ranked Boston's prospect pool as the worst in the league.
To be fair though, the Bruins have also traded several first round picks to stay in a competitive window for the past decade.
And Pronman's ranking doesn't make things any better for Sweeney. Out of 170 players and prospects he ranked, the lone Bruin is Fabian Lysell, who is ranked at number 170.
As per Pronman:
''Analysis: Lysell had a fine first season in North America. He didn't score as much as expected in the regular season but was excellent in the WHL playoffs. His skating is a clear NHL asset. Lysell has shifty edgework and his speed will pressure NHL defensemen. He can make highly-skilled plays through checks at fast speeds. Lysell sees the ice well and can hit seams. His size and compete are the biggest knocks on him, as he tends to drift to the outside and can be taken out of games physically. Due to his pure talent level, though, he projects as a top-nine winger.''
However, four of the top five are Boston University alum; check out the Top-70 below:
